Some personal best scores for the year were achieved this week. Chris and Eric equalled their personal best for the year. Eric for a second occasion missing a credit for his ‘High Five’ badge by a single target. Bob J missed winning his badge outright by missing a ‘sitting’ target over the pond - 64 is his pb so far this year.
Julian shot an excellent 63; a pb and credit towards his badge. Very pleasing to see that Bob G achieved his highest score this year which gives him this week’s handicap medal. Congratulations to Rose and Howard for also achieving their personal best scores. Bob W was high gun with 65/75.
KotR was concerned that there would not be any material for the newsletter this week as Ian would be unable to make the shoot. However this was least of Trevor’s problems. This month, having brought his 12 gauge Guerini out of the cabinet, it was misbehaving very badly! Observing a ‘Basil Fawlty’ rant which Trevor was delivering to his gun, a group of visitors thought it prudent to quickly move on past his squad. This tactic had little success as the Guerini went into an even greater ‘sulk’.
Those of us who receive the newsletter from HWSG will be aware of the concern over the cost of clays. Basically, our shooting will cost more because some people are shooting extra targets and some individual squad members are ‘seeing’ the targets whenever it is their turn to shoot. New score cards are being printed with ‘advice’ on the reverse. Also, staff will be more vigilant monitoring what is occurring. It is in our own interests to point these issues out where people are ‘taking liberties’.
During the drive to South Worcester, Trevor’s Guerini had time for some personal reflection. Not missing a target until the fourth stand, it went on to give Trevor high gun and handicap winner for the week. Fingers crossed for the next few weeks.
A different form of trap was demonstrated at South Worcester. It is similar to the flush target trap we have at HWSG. Twenty five targets are shot by one competitor at a time. The targets can be presented ‘on-report’ or as pairs. Occasionally, an orange and black clay will be released simultaneously – the orange target having to be hit first. Miss the orange and hit the black – nil scored! The targets trajectory is randomised and there is a single full use target. Very fast and furious.
